Earth Day Celebration and Dedication of Solar Panels

Saturday, April 17, 2010, Henderson High School

Mayor Comitta and State Representative Barbara McIlvaine Smith joined students, administrators, teachers and residents in dedicating the installation of solar panels on the roof of Henderson.  The panels came from a Green School Program  run by the national group Earth Day Network.
Henderson was awarded the panels based on the partnership work the Environmental Club and Graphic Design classes  have  been doing with BLUER and their "Power Down Friday" conservation efforts.

As a Borough school, Henderson is  taking a leadership role in the district in conservation and renewable energy.

The information and data that students will record  here at school from the energy output from the solar panel array will be shared with the larger community through software.  They already have 9 years of recorded weather data from the school's weather station.  The panels will also give students a hands-on experience for future careers in renewable energy as a solar energy "Lab."

Following the dedication, sunflower seeds were planted in the Henderson courtyard in celebration of the sun's energy that the new solar panels and the sunflowers will capture.
